The Films
"The Twelve Dates of Christmas," a new dating reality show, is in production. Ava Cleary is the lucky bachelorette seeking a date that she can take home for the holidays to meet her family. Unfortunately, weeding through the fourteen eligible bachelors is proving to be a little more difficult than she anticipated-- even with the help of two reality TV icons.

With so many men vying for her attention and seemingly there to do anything to win the dating game, the only person Ava feels that she can truly trust is the man tasked with "handling" her on and off set, Luke Sheppard. Since Luke lives in the town where the reality show is being filmed, he takes Ava away from the chaos of set while the rest of the crew is setting up the elaborate Christmas-themed dates where the contestants are supposed to woo Ava. Luke is her "safe space" when things get to be too stressful and overwhelming inside the mansion-- especially with her dating choices being under a microscope. Even guided by reality show legends, Ava feels that she bit off a bit more than she can chew.

Soon, Ava finds herself looking to spend more time with Luke than the bachelors that are trying so hard to get her attention. When she finally has to make the final decision between two of the bachelors, she makes a choice that no one saw coming.
John Callaway has been widowed for five years. Since losing his wife to a sudden illness, John has turned into a hermit. He used to be an incredible carpenter with his own shop, but let everything go once after losing Lanie. His only daughter, Doreen, is grown and living with her own family in another state. She even thinks that John should sell his house and move into senior living. John is in a state of depression, hiding in his solitude rather than staying in society.

Unfortunately for John, his apathy has resulted in a fine from the town in which he lives for not taking care of his property. They have issued a lien on his home for upkeep that the town has had to do, which John thought was a complimentary service. He speaks with a friend of his wife’s, Pastor Matthew Greene. Matthew takes it upon himself to negotiate a deal where John can teach a six-week woodworking class for the community to pay off the lien.

Much to his chagrin, John finds himself teaching a class of three misfits that are learning woodworking for different reasons: Mrs. Ramsey, a sarcastic widow in her 70s, is tired of waiting for her son to fix her kitchen chairs; Chloe Robinson, a high-strung, 32 year old, over-achieving lawyer who has been ordered by her boss to find a hobby; and Chris Carpenter, an 18 year old high school senior who doesn’t even know how to hold a hammer.

As the class goes on, John learns that there is a lot to life that he has been missing out on. Mitchell teaches them the skills they were searching for, and his students teach him how to stay present in life, even with everything he has lost.
